What kind of town is Montreal West?
The Town of Montreal West was incorporated on 9 January 1897, when it was detached from the village of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Ouest. It covered about 400 acres then and still does today, and it had about 50 houses and 350 residents. The Grand Trunk tracks were laid along its southern edge in 1855 and the Canadian Pacific tracks in 1886, and the town grew up between the two lines. The Town Hall was built in 1910 on the site of the Halfway House tavern, a stagecoach stop between the port of Montreal and the Lachine wharf. Montreal West was merged into Montreal on 1 January 2002 and became a town again on 1 January 2006. Statistics Canada counted 5,115 residents in 2021. The Town, not a Montreal borough office, sends the municipal tax bill and the transfer-duty bill.

This is general information about how a sale usually works in Quebec. It is not legal, tax or financial advice, and it is not a promise about your price or your date. A notary — and, if your file needs it, a lawyer or a licensed insolvency trustee — applies the rules to your situation. Sending an address does not commit you to sell.
